Nothing does this better than a well designed website where they can read your articles, view your projects, see your shop and basically get to know you.

It allows you to show off your completed projects. - Many times I've recieved orders from customers because they saw something they liked. Sometimes they just need to see something to decide. How many times have you bought something that you never even knew existed until you saw it?

It gives your customer easy access to you. - The easier you make it for your customers to do business with you then the more sales you'll make. That's how convienience stores can thrive in neighborhoods even though their prices are normally higher.

It allows you to control your customers expectations. - You can set your product specifications ahead of time. That allows your customers to choose from your standards rather than ask for (and expect) profit killing extras.

It allows you to reach further for customers. - You can offer what you make as far as you want. Every month I have viewers from 80 to 100 countries drop in for a visit. I don't think you'd want to try to market worldwide from a small cabinet shop but you can easily from a affiliate website. You can limit your own products to one country or several.

I could go on and on about the benefits of a website as a part of your woodworking shop. I know I have certainly enjoyed mine. This site, woodworkingsiteonline.com, almost immediately evolved into a affiliate information site rather than just a support site for my woodworking shop.
